Reinforce Your Partially Broken or Damaged Teeth With Inlays & Onlays

Designed to repair your rear teeth specifically, dental inlays and onlays are restorations for mild to moderate decay or cracked and fractured teeth. Inlays fit into your broken teeth like a puzzle piece to allow your existing healthy tooth to remain. An onlay is required with the top of your tooth is sufficiently damaged and has to be removed. The top of your tooth is then cut away and a full onlay is provided to replace the biting surface.

Dr. Lawson can have a porcelain inlay made in a dental laboratory, which are typically stronger but more expensive than simple white fillings. If well done and cared for they can last longer. Large white fillings are unfortunately doomed to fail, and a laboratory made onlay may be the better choice if a crown is not needed.

Benefits of Inlays & Onlays

There are other benefits to inlays and onlays in comparison to metal fillings:

Durability – These tough, hard-wearing materials last up to 30 years.
Strengthen – The strength of your teeth can be improved by up to 75 percent; meanwhile, traditional metal fillings can actually reduce the strength of the teeth by up to 50 percent.
Long-lasting – Prolong your tooth’s life and prevent the need for more dental treatment in the future.

Call Dr. Lawson today and schedule an appointment to discuss the possibility of an inlay or onlay for you.
